Thanks to Thomas Keller and his magic pen, Opinionated About Dining has received autographed copies of each of his four cookbooks (pictured below.) These specially signed copies can be yours for free when you review restaurants for the Opinionated About Dining Survey. There are two ways that you can receive a free book.
Rate 350 Restaurants
Receive a complete set of all four books when you review 350 restaurants subject to the Terms & Conditions* below. This is limited to one (1) winner on a first come, first serve basis.
Rate 100 Restaurants
Receive a free book for every hundred (100) restaurants you rate subject to the Terms and Conditions.* This is limited to 12 winners. Winners can earn multiple books up to four (4) subject to availability.
Terms & Conditions*
A. You Must Be 18 Years Old to Participate
B. No prior purchase is necessary
C. You MUST have actually visited the restaurants you are rating
D. You MUST include a comment about the restaurant along with your rating. Comments should preferably be short and to the point.
E. The restaurants you rate can be anywhere in the U.S., Canada or Europe
F. Ratings must have been entered after Aug 5, 2010 in order to count towards this promotion. The deadline for entering your ratings is 11:59PM on Aug 15, 2010 or until we run out of books. Whichever occurs first.
G. We can’t guarantee that the book you choose will still be available at the time you qualify. In the event that you qualify, please email your first and second choices to info@opinionatedabout.com. Books will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. and we can’t guarantee that the specific book you choose will still be be available at the time you qualify. The best way to secure the book of your choice is to notify us of your choice as soon as you qualify for this award.
H. Opinionated About Dining (OAD) reserves the sole right to determine whether any review that was entered in conjunction with this promotion is legitimate and counts towards receiving an award. In the event any review or vote is disqualified, OAD will not use that vote in the results of its survey.
For new participants, when you register, enter the word “olive" (without the quotes) as the pre-approval code, and in the field labeled referred by, please enter the phrase “Keller" so we know you want your ratings to count towards this promotion. One never knows what to expect when one visits a new city in order to eat. Especially when there isn’t a lot of writing about that city’s dining scene to refer to. This was the case with Portland, not the one on the east coast that I have visited on a number of occasions. I am talking about the one in Oregon, a state I had never visited until this past weekend.
Everyone I spoke to in advance of my trip sang the same refrain about Portland – they lack a fine dining scene but they have some very good restaurants...

One day I was sitting around, minding my own business, when I noticed I had an email in my inbox from a name I didn’t immediately recognize. I clicked on it and the message said something like, “I can’t believe you don’t have Volt listed on your survey" and it included a link to the restaurant’s website. I clicked through to the site and it seemed that some chef named Voltaggio had opened a restaurant by the name of Volt and he was serving a 21-course molecular menu at something he called Table 21.
Call me a media Luddite...

At the recommendation of my friend Frodnesor, who writes the blog, Food For Thought Miami I booked a table at NAOE, a small sushi bar located in a strip mall in North Miami Beach. According to Frod’, chef Kevin Cory served him what he said was his best meal of 2009. I’ve been doing a lot of eating lately. I’ve been to San Francisco, the Napa and Silicon Valleys, Miami, Washington DC., London, Paris, Belgium and Denmark I also visited Los Angeles. Given the backlog of reviews, I thought the best way to catch up is to offer them in geographical segments which is how I handled my four day trip to LA.
