"2010 Opinionated About Dining Top Restaurants in the U.S."
• An interesting list - of course it's the kind of thing that sparks endless debate, and is only as useful as a talking point. What does "important" mean, anyway? A couple thoughts of my own - I find it hard to believe Manresa & Providence scored as high as they did. Manresa is a very good restaurant but out of its league when compared to the likes of Le Bernadin and Alinea. I found Providence to be especially disappointing - just "good". I find Coi to be far superior to both. I am also pleasantly surprised to find Blue Hill at Stone Barn up so high - I haven't eaten there but have heard rave reviews, and I guess what Dan & co. have done there should be considered "Important" -- at least on the East Coast.
• Just looked at this list and I have dined in 90% of them. I think every restaurant on this list I have not dined at recently or ever probably should be on it with one exception. I cannot begin to fathom how McCrady's restaurant in Charleston SC could make it to this list let alone be chosen above a few others in Charleston which I personally wouldn't put on the list. Surely this is some kind of mistake. It's placement destroys any new found trust in this site.
• Hi Steve, I know that you ate at Miyake in Portland Maine. Do you agree with its ranking in New England? I do. Stephen
• I prefer Coi to Manresa as well, although I prefer Providence to Coi although I haven't been to Providence in quite a while and I don't know if it has changed. Also someone posted a comment about Miyake in Portland that seems to have evaporated into cyberspace. The comment asked me if I agree with the rating based my own experience at the restaurant. Tough question to answer. For me Miyake is on the level of a place like Sushi Seki or Gari and a rating of between 92-95 is in the range of what I consider reasonable.
