Back when we began our survey in 2007, we collected a number of rave reviews of a restaurant named Sea Saw. We thought it odd that the recipient of such praise was a Japanese restaurant in Arizona, so we did a bit of research and found that the chef had recently won a James Beard Award. But before we had a chance to book a flight to Phoenix, the restaurant had closed its doors, a victim of the recession of 2008. Two years later, Sea Saw’s chef, Nobuo Fukuda, reappeared at this restaurant, where he once again is serving “amazing combinations” of “well-constructed dishes” like five-spice braised oxtail and Two-Wash Ranch chawan mushi. Set in historic Heritage Square, the cozy house is the “perfect setting for Chef Nobuo’s beautiful and amazing plates.” Editor’s note: Teeter House is directly opposite Pizzeria Bianco, making Nobuo a good dining option if the line at for pizza is too long.
