Cheese Board Pizza Collective

Opened as a cheese shop during the Bay Area food revolution of the mid-70s, the Collective expanded into "pizza for Tuesday lunch" in 1985. The then-novel artisanal pizza caused a sensation, and the Collective (based on the principles of an Israeli kibbutz) opened a full-time restaurant. Of the contemporary pizzeria, our reviewers say, "The pizza, served on a thin sourdough crust topped with up-market vegetarian ingredients, is always solid," and "The ability to order by the slice is unique for a place that sells artisanally styled pizzas."
