While Macrina sounds like a take on the name of owner Leslie Mackie, it actually belongs to a fourth-century Greek saint and mystic who preached the concept of living a simple, self-sufficient life. In keeping with the saint's teachings, every morning Mackie helps the residents of Seattle sustain themselves on breads and pastries like a raisin brioche twist, a lemon and sour cherry coffeecake or a Parmesan and rosemary ham biscuit. You can eat in or take out; one reviewer who visits the city on a regular basis said, "I always buy a sandwich and breads for the long plane ride home."
